Harry Armbruster Obituary

Harry Myron Armbruster, 77, passed away at home suddenly on Saturday, September 22, 2012, surrounded by family, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born June 12, 1935, in Marion, Ohio, to Leroy and Miriam Armbruster. A 1953 graduate of Caledonia High School, he served his country overseas in Korea as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force.

He was preceded in death this year by a son, Michael Alan Armbruster, and is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra Armbruster, sons, Jeffrey L. (Sheila) of Houston, Texas, Kevin L. (Renee) of Tallmadge, Ohio, Jerry S. (Renee) of Sarasota, Florida, and daughters Julie (Chris) Ruble of Newnan, Georgia, and Amy (Rob) Hill of St. Louis, Missouri, along with eleven wonderful grandchildren, all of whom gave him years and years of joy. He is also survived by his sister, MaryLou (Robert) Murphy of Cardington, Ohio, and brother, Wilson Armbruster of Caledonia, Ohio.

Harry's first love and profession was art, and he left behind numerous paintings and drawings to be cherished by his loved ones. He was also a huge fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, and to no one's surprise, he waited until just after Saturday's game was over before passing away. His only regret would surely be that the last game he enjoyed was not a victory over Michigan. He was also an avid follower of the Indians and Browns, but he was a realist and fully knew that he would leave this Earth before either of those teams would ever win another championship. In his younger years, he loved to play a round or two of golf on the weekends, and his curses can still be heard echoing throughout the fairways and greens of several courses in Stark and the surrounding counties.

Harry made friends easily, and will be remembered by those who knew him for his quick wit and sense of humor. In spite of his grave illness, he managed to keep an optimistic and positive attitude which made it a little bit easier for his loved ones to face the future without him.

Harry's huge heart, warm smile, and sense of humor will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved him. Interment with full military honors will take place in a private ceremony at Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Condolences and special memories may be shared online at:

Julie, I wish that I had the honor of meeting your dad. I can tell just by reading this obituary that I would have loved him for his sarcasm just as I do you :) You are lucky to have taken after him in so many areas. I am so sorry for your families loss of such a strong father, grandfather, brother and husband but I am happy for him that he is in a better place and not having to suffer thru this horrible disease none as Cancer. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers thru these tough days to follow. I love you!

To the entire Armbruster family.....David and I wish you the peace of God's Grace and the knowledge that you will once again be with your father, husband and grandfather.

Mr. Armbruster (as I remember him) had a great presence and sense of humor, and he and his wife raised an amazing family. I was and continue to be blessed to know this crazy fun bunch.

Harry and Sandy were the best neighbors. Always greeted home with a smile and a thumbs up or a hello by the mailbox. They are a huge staple of my childhood and will love them both forever. Sandy all my love pours to you.
