Donald Olney Obituary
Donald W. Olney, Jr. "Don", 56, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015.
Born in Akron, Don spent most of his life residing in Wadsworth and most recently living in Wooster. Don graduated from Wadsworth High School Class of '77, was an Assistant Golf Pro at Rawiga Country Club for six years, and for the past 25 years was the head Golf Pro at Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown where he was also the golf coach for Chippewa High School.
Preceded in death by his mother, Martha (Barthelmas) Olney, he is survived by his father, Donald (Becky) Olney Sr.; brother, Jeff (Darcina) Olney; fiancee, Danielle Roberts; and numerous extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Don's life will be held at Chippewa Golf Club, 12147 Shank Rd., Doylestown, Ohio, on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Chippewa High School for a Memorial Fund to be set up in Don's name at a later date. www.silva-hostetler.com

A real gentleman with a welcoming presence. My group often remarked about what a pleasure it was to play at Chippewa compared to elsewhere because of the people who worked there. Donny embodied that difference. A fine player and teacher of the game, his most lasting legacy has nothing to do with a golf club.

Mr. Olney and Jeff, I am very saddened to have heard about Don. I spent many hours on the golf course with him during our summer jobs at Rawiga; he taught me how to golf. We also became great friends. He had a heart of gold. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My Ohio golf season has started on Good Friday at the Chipp for the past 25 years. Don was always the man that welcomed our group. Heaven just got themselves on of the true fine gentleman... just way to early.

I have known Donnie since childhood. Always enjoyed seeing him at Chippewa. I will always remember his smile & wry sense of humor. My prayers go out to Mr. Olney & Jeff & everyone else. In honor of Donnie, going to play Rawiga tonight in lieu of his memorial.

I work with Don at the golf course for 4 summers. Such a wonderful man with kind heart! Although I have not seen him for some time he has and always will be one of my favorite people I have ever known! My heart goes out to his family and everyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing him! He will be greatly missed!

I was so sorry to hear what happened. I went to high school with Don and saw him often at the golf course. Every time I saw Don his smile and kindness always brought a smile to my face.

I was a classmate of Don's in Wadsworth. He was always nice to me although we did not run in the same circles. I was happy for him when I saw his engagement photos on FB. So sorry the world has lost another "good guy"!

Don was a GREAT friend to me! He actually helped me get me get my job at Chipp! He was the first one to make me feel welcome! I took lessons from Don for a few years! I will truly miss him! He was a GREAT guy!!!!

I was honored to first know Don as a friend and confidant for 6yrs... then Blessed to have him as my fiance'.. He loved me and my stubbornness like no other... loved my children as his own and usually took their side... he was showing me how to be not be so serious as I was showing him that he was worth loving to the moon and back and giving him a family of his own... letting him know that I didn't need anything from him other than his love and understanding while wanting to be by his side forever... Thank you all for welcoming me into the part of your life that you shared with Don, the love of my life... I'll forever be his spiritual wife...

I took golf lessons from don. He would always tell me. You have a great Baseball swing. I would laugh and say I know. He is leaving big shoes to fill. Chippewa will never be quite the same. Big loss for the community, big gain for heaven.
