We are in shock! We don't get the paper on a regular basis so we didn't know Doug passed until we were told today. Doug was a good friend to me and my husband Pat. Last we saw him at his house, we knew he was sick but not that sick, but I suspected. He was good to us, as he was to many. I met him in 1984 and he and my husband and I became fast friend. We called many times and wondered why we didnt ever get a call back. Doug rest in peace, Heaven has another Great Angle.

To the family I am so sorry for your lost. He was a good, caring, intelligent man that helped so many people in so many ways. He treated people like family even though sometimes it did not seem like that it was for a reason. To teach us. I learned personally alot from him. I learned I was stronger than I thought I could ever be. He taught & navigated me through 20 yrs. to make me who I am today. I have the utmost respect for him & he will be missed by many. RIP Doug & Thank you

I met Mr Houck 6-7 yrs ago. What a nice, soft spoken, and humble gentleman. His generosity in the form of scholarships for the students of Canton City Schools, Cuyahoga Falls City Schools, and others local districts will always be greatly appreciated. Mr Houck clearly wished to help others and appreciated the hard work, perseverance, and ingenuity of those whom he employed. Mr Hauck was a true entrepreneur who shared with so many his own journey toward fulfilling his potential. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beautiful birds he so enjoyed. His contributions will never be forgotten. VBB

I learned a great deal from Doug about a lot of things. He could be scathing and sarcastic at times but it was because he cared so deeply. I was just thinking about him a couple days ago and thought I wouldn't have been where I am without him. Rest In Peace, Doug.

When I worked at DLH he was CEO/president. He was a caring and giving man. I remember when my house caught on fire he was going to let me use the company christmas tree so my kids would have a tree and he helped my dad when he was sick. He was a very nice man. I always knew he was coming because you could hear his boots. I didnt even know he was sick, I wish I could have seen him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Doug was a great guy who always valued family structure. Always loved talking to him when he would walk through the DLH plants. Even though his employees weren't his actual family, he always helped us and treated us all as if we were. He was one of a kind. RIP Doug! Prayers to the family.

He was a good man. One thing he taught me was to stand up for yourself in an argument when you knew you were right. He respected that in a person. Rip Doug
