Marna continues to be remembered at the Summit County Historical Society, which benefits from her initiative in establishing the John Brown "Preservation of the Abolitionist Movement" fund, as we restore the home and soon, the monument.

Marna was one great/liberating person who I truly enjoyed conversing with and knowing! What a courageous mind and being for 'good' in our world. She will, indeed, be sorely missed by many!
Thanks Marna for all the contributions you made while your time spent on this plane! It WILL be noted in the Heavens, to be sure!!

Miss Marna was an inspiration! Her passion for John Brown and her persistence in the fight for women to be equal were what brought us together. He love for our veterans was what bonded our friendship. She always had stacks of magazines and calendars for me to take to the VA hospital. I would run to the house just to pick something up and after an engaging 3 hour visit, exhausted from her knowledge, I would leave. I shall miss this amazing woman tremendously. May she rest in peace in heaven's light.

Oh, how I'm going to miss you, Marna! I so enjoyed spending time with you and going over old photos, memories and things in the news--I have learned so much from you about life and history! May there be a garden in Heaven for you to tend, and may you always watch over us, and keep us informed and interested in the world around us, as you always were. Too many memories to list. But I will keep being the best mom I can be, & I will make sure the kids stay on top of their history work in school!! I love you, Grandma!

I remember Marna's passion for the history of John Brown. She often shared news articles that she clipped about the abolitionist movement from magazines and newspapers. She left a fund that will be used to support activities of the Historical Society related to telling the story of John Brown in Akron. And at some point, there will be some resolution around the John Brown monument in Perkins Woods that she cared deeply about. Akron's history is richer for her investment of time as a volunteer.
