Lue Reid Obituary

Mother Lue Della Reid was born to parents Joe Marshall and Birda Griffin Gates in Houston, Mississippi on November 9, 1917, and was the last of eight children. She left Houston after marrying George Reid and had been a resident of Akron, Ohio for more than 78 years. She accepted Christ at an early age and had been active in the church all of her life. Her love for the Lord and her dedication to her faith were evident when she, along with her husband, founded Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in the living room of her home. She remained a faithful and dedicated member by working in the Sunday School as a teacher and Superintendent, as a member of the Mission and Mother's Board, singing in various choirs, advising and counseling the young people in her church and her neighborhood. Mother Reid also organized the ``A.M. Gospel Choir' at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in 2006. Although she had no children of her own, she helped to raise several nieces and nephews and provided a safe place to live and a home cooked meal to anyone in need.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Reid; siblings, Ruby Banks, Robert Gates, Charity Hill, Benjamin Gates, Coy Gates Sr., Eloise Williams, and Mary Ruth Gates. Mother Lue Della Reid leaves to cherish her memory many nieces and nephews, neighbors, the church family that she adored; beloved friends, Barbara Banks, Barbara Bolar, Francis Curtis, Julia Jackson, Lucy Hale, Mother T. Jones, Mother Douglas, Geraldine Bolor and Nanny Brodus; and a host of relatives and friends.

Service will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 12 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1225 V. Odom Blvd., Akron, OH 44307, Rev. Charles Parmer officiating. Interment at Glendale Cemetery. Friends may visit the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 396 Howe St., Akron, OH 44307.

SISTER REID WAS ONE OF THE FEW POSSITIVE EXAMPLES THAT I HAD IN MY LIFE;GROWING UP AS A CHILD.
I KNOW MY GRANDMOTHER(SIS.SUSAN BYRD)GAVE SISTER REID A GRAND WELCOME INTO THE MOST HIGH KINGDOM.
I REMEMBER THE FIRST DAY MY GRANDMOTHER CAME TO JERUSALEM;WHEN IT WAS ON THE CORNER OF WALBASH AND EUCLID.SISTER REID AND MY GRANDMOTHER BECAME BEST FRIENDS ON THAT DAY.
I ENJOYED SITTING AROUND THE DINNER TABLE;LISTENING TO THEM TWO GO ON WITH JOYOUS TALKING UNTIL THEY GOT TIRED.THEY WE'RE THE TRUE ANGLES GOD PUT ON THIS EARTH.
MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS THE REID FAMILY!
RECEIVE THE KINGDOM GOD HAS PREPARED FOR YOU SINCE THE WORLD WAS MADE.

Sister Reid whole was a beautiful example of caring and being true to her faith. Death is this an absence if life. "The wages sin pays is deathe but the gift God gives is everlasting life."Rom 6:23 Bible gives us the hope of reuniting with our love ones at Isa25:8

The McGruder family sends our thoughts and prayers to the family.
Mother Reid was very blessed to have such loving family care for her over the past few years. We saw you take shifts to take care of her in her own home. I will miss gardening with her and just our chats in the "alley". She asked me a few years ago to get that old house behind her house torn down. I got busy and I am so thankful she was here to see it go down.
Heaven has a special place for "Caregivers".

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
