Gary M. Wessel|
Gary M. Wessel, 59, passed away suddenly August 16, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer.
Gary was a lifelong resident of Ohio, being born in Lakewood on Nov. 18, 1953 and residing in Akron to raise his family after marrying his wife of 28 years, Maryann.
Gary graduated from OSU with a degree in Agronomy. He then became a builder of bridges, schools, and teacher of farming as he served his country by volunteering in The Peace Corps in Costa Rica for four years. Gary was a devoted family man and a dedicated salesman with a sense of humor that persisted until his death. As his great-niece said, "everything was more fun when Uncle Gary was there."
He was preceded in death by his mother, Noreen (nee Jenkins), and is survived by wife, Maryann (Spoonster); son, Benjamin; his daughter, Thea; father, James H.; brother, James; sisters, Gail (Richard) Hartman, Deborah (Doug) McDonald; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Patrick) Pesata; nieces, Annie, Christine, Katie, Stacy and Kate (Tim) Wiley; nephews, Patrick,Justin, Bill Jr. (Julie) and Joseph Jr. (Nicole); great-nieces, Maggie and Delany; great-nephews, Liam, Sam, Connor, Nathan, Andrew and Cobin; many other dear family members and friends.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron 44303, where friends may call from 12 until service time. Memorial donations may be made to the Spoonster-Wessel benevolent Fund at any Fifth-Third Bank or in c/o 39 S. Miller Rd.
