Jean Shetler Jones

Jean Shetler Jones, 84, of Hart ville, lived a full and vibrant life and died peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on May 18, 2003.

She was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Alli ance, Ohio, one of identical twin daughters, to Clara B. and Curtis M. Shet- er. Her family moved to Canton, Ohio, and she attended Leh man High School and was a gradu ate of the Class of 1936 from Mount Marie. She attended Briar cliffe College in New York and grad uated from Ohio Wesleyan Universi ty in 1940 with a B.A. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. It was during her years at Ohio Wesleyan that she met her future husband, Herbert A. Jones. They were married in 1942 and lived in Detroit, Mich., while Dr. Jones completed his medical train ing. They returned to Canton after World War II, where they resided until moving to Congress Lake in Hartville in 1969. Jean and Herb shared 43 wonderful years of marriage before Herb's death in 1988. All who knew Jean will remember her capacity for love, kindness, and generosity, her incredible strength, vitality, and uplifting spirit. Through out her life, Jean made her family her focus and she was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She provided guidance, instilled faith, sparked joy and laughter, and warmly touched those around her. Jean was a dedi cated volunteer and enjoyed affilia tions with many community organizations. She served as treasurer for the Junior League of Canton, Ohio, Inc., and was active in the Medical Auxiliary of Stark County, the Women's Board of Aultman Hospital, and the Women's Committee of Walsh College. She was also a member of the Canton Garden Club and the Congress Lake Garden Club. An avid golfer, she enjoyed her memberships at the Congress Lake Club in Hartville, Ohio, and the Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Fla.

She is survived by her twin sis ter, June S. Stow of Asheville, N.C.; her daughters, Judith J. Thomas of Akron, Ohio, and Pamela J. Gaynor and son-in-law, Norman J. Gaynor III, of Hartville, Ohio, five grandchil dren, Kristen T. McAllister and her husband, Michael W., of Provi dence, R.I., Megan E. Gaynor of Boston, Mass., Patrick S. Thomas of Orlando, Fla., N. Gregory Gaynor and his wife, Kimberly S., of New York City, and David V. Thomas Jr. of Roanoke, Va.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at Christ Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Da vid de Vries officiating. A private interment will be held at North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stark County Humane Society, 5100 Peach St., Louisville, Ohio 44641; Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, Ohio 44702; or the Aultman Hospice Program, 4510 Dressler Rd.
