Kenneth R. Karg, Sr.

Kenneth R. Karg, Sr., age 84, of Medina, died peacefully on January 11, 2014.

He was born January 24, 1929 in Akron, Ohio, to Raymond and Emma Karg. He attended St. Vincent Catholic High School and graduated in 1956 from Kent State University after serving in the Korean War from 1950-52.

On June 26, 1954, he married Mary Lou Stricklen and they celebrate 59 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Karen, Susan (Bruce) Ruhl, Ken (Linda), Steve (Lisa), Kathy (Mike) Peddicord and Rob (Carol); and loving grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Ken was a successful entrepreneur in the automobile industry. He began working at Hi-Speed at the age of 14 and founded Ray Karg and Sons with his father at the age of 16 years. In 1967, he pursued his passion in the automotive industry by joining a car dealer in Akron and in 1970 moved to Columbus to manage the Ford dealership there. He returned to Northeastern Ohio in 1976 when he established Karg Dodge in Strongsville. He developed multiple properties during his career through Brunswick Development established in 1986 pioneering a multi-franchise dealership at Rt 303 and I-71, Karg Brunswick Auto World and Karg Medina Jeep Eagle, Mazda Volkswagen. He was active in Rotary and Chamber of Commerce (Strongsville and Medina) and a member of the Greater Cleveland Auto Dealers and National Auto Dealers Association. Ken enjoyed golfing, fishing trips to Canada, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Emma Karg; sisters, Jean and Suzanne; brother, Bud; sister-in-law, Cathy; and brothers-in-law, Ron Gaylord and Dick Maloyan. He is survived by his siblings, Pat (Gene) Champ, Annette Maloyan, Nancy (Chuck) Brady and Jan Tomko, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Road, Copley, Ohio, on Tuesday, January 14th between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 15th at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 3100 S. Weymouth Rd., Medina, OH 44256, with Father William Karg officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Kenneth R. Karg, Sr. to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center's Parkinson's Fund-Our Goal Is A Cure (Fund 311849).
