Barbara Baskin, born on September 14, 1947, passed away on February 8, 2016 after a long illness.

Barb attended Schumacher Grade School, Litchfield Jr. High and Firestone High School, graduating in 1965. She spent the early part of her adult life as a licensed beautician. Married to Bruce Baskin in 1970, she lived in West Akron and Bath. Her life was filled with opportunities to volunteer for local organizations including Summit County Humane Society, Weathervane Theater, Civic Theater, Jewish Federation, and First Night. They all welcomed her hard work and friendly appeal. Barb was recognized as Summit County Arts Alliance volunteer of the year. She was an administrative assistant for John Kenley at Kenley Players expanding her love for theatre. There was many an evening when Barb loved to show her culinary talents to feed theatre staff and stars alike. And Barb's real love was her lifelong devotion to family and her extended family of devoted friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Nate and Jeanne Mervis of Akron, Ohio. She is survived by her son, Dan Baskin of Akron; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mary Mervis of Chesterfield, Mo.; niece, Alissa Schwab and husband Noah, their children, Jack and Lilly of Ballwin, Mo., and niece, Nicole Mervis of San Francisco, Calif.

Service will be held TODAY at 1:30 p.m. at the Gordon-Flury Memorial Home, 1260 Collier Road, Akron, with interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Family will be at the residence of Lois Reaven TONIGHT and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of other remembrances, the family suggests donations to .
