Barbara Jane Horvath
Barbara Jane Horvath, 79, went home to be with the Lord on December 11th, 2017.
Barbara was born on December 28th 1937 in Tallmadge, Ohio to Clifford and Irene Scherer. After graduating from Tallmadge High School in 1955 she pursued a degree in teaching from Kent State University.
She married her true love Ernest Horvath in August 1962, and moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she had two children. In 1975 she was able to build her dream home on a plot of land next to her parents' home in Tallmadge where she lived until 2015.
She taught grade school in the Tallmadge and Brook Park school districts. After retiring from full time teaching she worked as a substitute teacher and as a nursing aide in several local nursing homes.
Barbara loved Christ, life, her husband, and two children dearly. She was a member of Tallmadge Alliance Church where she had the pleasure of serving as a deaconess. She loved to sing church hymns, and had a beautiful voice. She was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed baking cookies for the Awana program. She loved gardening, knitting, sewing and creating new things. She was a member of the Tallmadge Alumni Association and enjoyed meeting with her fellow classmates. She also loved all Cleveland sports teams but especially the Indians and watched all of the games. There's always next year!
In 2015 she moved to West Virginia to live with her daughter. She enjoyed the fresh mountain air and the peacefulness of the area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest. She is survived by her daughter, Heidi; son, Clifford (Kerry); plus many nieces, nephews and cousins (she had 11 siblings!).
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
- 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
At Barbara's request there will be no public services. She requested that six players from the Indians and Browns be her pallbearers so they could let her down one last time. Interment will be at Tallmadge Cemetery.
Donations in Barbara's memory may be given to Tallmadge Alliance Church and the Haven of Rest Ministries.
