Bernard D. Butler "Bernie"

Bernard D. Butler "Bernie" passed away June 27th, 2013 at the age of 83.

He was born July 26th, 1929 in Barberton, Ohio to Bernard and Genevieve (Cook) Butler. He was raised and spent his entire life in the Norton/Barberton area. Bernard and his wife of more than 60 years, Hilda "Dottie" Stough, were high school sweethearts, both graduating from Norton High School. They were married at and were long time members of Grace United Church of Christ in Loyal Oak.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dottie; and his sister, Colleen Thomas. He is survived by his sister, Mona Thayer (Earl); brother, Don Butler (Sandy); daughters, Debbie Hinkle, Janet Von Gunten (Dan); grandchildren, Gwendolyn Aquino (Jason), Nathan Von Gunten (Valerie), Megan Hinkle (Jason Bauer); great grandchildren, Matthew Bauer, Brooklyn Von Gunten, Arianna Aquino and many nieces and nephews.

Bernie's primary employer was the Ohio Brass Company in Barberton. Bernie was very athletic in high school and was a big Cleveland Browns fan. He loved his gardens, helping others, especially if it was related to farming and any activity that allowed him to spend time outdoors. Bernie was also particularly fond of spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bernie was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013, 11 A.M. at COX Funeral Home, 1376 High Street, Wadsworth, OH 44281 with Rev. John Beaty officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace United Church of Christ of Loyal Oak, 3285 Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Norton, OH 44203.
