Betty J. Harris

Betty J. Harris, 82, was called home on July 11, 2018. She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. to Mrs. Emma Blake. As a young girl she moved to Akron, Ohio where she later settled.

She graduated from East High School and attended The University of Akron. Betty accepted Christ at an early age.

Betty was a member of the Lebron James Grandmothers Club, Black Women of JAHA, The Kings Chapel, Eastern Star and Lady Wyckoft #172.

She was preceded in death by parents, Emma Blake, Lemmie Smith, Sr., Carrie Smith and sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith.

Betty is survived by son, Pastor Howard M. Harris Sr.; daughter, Emma Harris; brother, Lemmie Smith Jr.; grandchildren, Tabious, Howard (Naidra) Jr. and Miriam Harris, Brandon and Brittany Guyton; niece and caregiver, Lawana Holt; niece, Pamela Shropshire; adopted brother, James Miller of Tennessee; adopted sister, Rose Morgan of Tennessee and dear friends, Berlene Anderson, Lorene Sampson and Sgt. Glenn Simms; and a host of great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at Providence Baptist Church, 458 Madison Ave., Akron, Ohio 44320. Funeral ceremony will immediately follow. Interment Glendale Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to 1220 Millhaven Dr., Copley, Ohio 44321.
