I knew dave when we were kids. Dave and I went to elementary school and Jr. high school together. Dave and were in 6th grade together and had several classes together in Jr. High. I moved after 8th grade and lost connection with Dave. From reading the guest book it is apparent Dave was a great teacher and friend to many. My thoughts are with his family. Godspeed.

To my friend Danny and Dave's Family: I graduated Green in '78 and knew Dave when he was a kid. Oh, did he make us laugh, traipsing up and down the aisle of the band bus on those crowded trips to performances, entertaining the troups. No surprise that he became a good man and amazing teacher who impacted many lives. May his legacy bring peace, comfort, and JOY !!

I've still been thinking about this everyday. It's crazy to think that the man with the blue and gold heart isn't going to be with us for my junior year. I was so excited to have him. I'll never forget that he never called me by my first name, it was always "Miller!" and I'll never forget how he always told me how I was gunna be one of his favorite students. He always wanted me to bowl and I feel like I really should've so I would've been able to know him better. My heart and prayers go out to his family and close friends. Everyone who knew him, knew that he was the Coventry Man. I'll miss you, Mr. McCormick.

I never had Dave for class (as much as I wanted to). However, I didn't need to in order to appreciate him. I can not think of a person with a single negative thing to say about him. He was loved, respected, and held in such high regard by every student, including those of us not actually in his class. It takes a powerful personality to impact a young adult's mind, even without being a direct teacher of theirs. Dave, Dave's family--please know that he will be missed, and we will never allow his memory to fade.

August 3, 2012

I am a graduate of Portage Lakes Career Center, class of 1988. Mr. McCormick was a highly respected and loved teacher. -- Personally, I have only ever had one other teacher who left such a lasting impression on my life. -- He knew how to engage every student and used highly creative and sometimes non-traditional methods to help struggling students succeed. (For example, he assigned those of us who were doing well with a student who needed extra help. Then, if we could help our fellow student bring his or her grade up, Mr. McCormick rewarded all of us with a dinner out at T.G.I.Friday's.) He made sure we knew how important diligence, hard work and focus are - in the classroom and in life. He also made sure that our memories of high school were special. He played a key role in organizing and orchestrating the first JVS prom for our senior class.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.

My children talked about Mr. McCormick. They spoke very highly of him as do all the other enties in this guest book. I'm so sorry that future students will not have the pleasure of having him around. I am sure that he is in the paradise that we have been told about. He is kicked back talking to JFK and getting the real story. The song "Only the good die young." definately applies to him. My condolences to his family and friends. Farewell, Dave McCormick so long for now.

First of all I am very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I graduated in '81. My Mom knew when she sent me to IGA that I would not be back anytime soon. Dave and I would stand in the isles and laugh until we cried. One thing he would do is imitate the store manager, not just in actions, but his voice too! He would start talking to me like the manager, and pretend I was complaining about the fruit or something, and we would just cry from laughing! A great person, and I am quite sure a great friend to many! God Bless!

Mr McCormick,
You were one of the few people that I met in my life who left a lasting impression that I will keep with me for the rest of my life! I AM SO HONORED AND BLESSED TO SAY I COULD CALL YOU MY FRIEND.YOU NOT ONLY WERE MY FRIEND BUT EVERY YOUNG PERSON (BEAU INCLUDED) THAT YOU CAME IN CONTACT WITH, CAME AWAY WITH THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY WERE SPECIAL AND THEY JUST MET SOMEONE VERY SPECIAL WHO WILL LEAVE A VERY SOLID IMPACT ON THEIR LIVES. RIP DAVE, YOU WERE A GEM IN OUR LIVES AND COUNTLESS OTHERS. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR WISDOM, KINDNESS,YOUR LOVE OF KENNEDY HISTORY, HUMOR AND ABOVE ALL YOUR TRUE LOVE OF LIFE! On a personal note thank you for being one of the finest role models my son came in contact with and you shared your knowledge with him which in his future will take him a very long way. Your strong work ethic was impressive to Beau since he found out that you never missed a day of work he also wanted to be the one not to miss a day of school thanks to you. He said to me one time "If Mr McCormick can do it so can I"! thank you. I also want to thank you for all of the countless hours you put in announcing every sporting event that you could fit into your very busy schedule and I have to say you didn't "SLAUGHTER ANYONE'S NAME THAT I CAN RECALL"! HAHAHA
I know there is a huge void right now in our home, countless others lives, and our community as a whole. YOU CAN NEVER BE REPLACED AND THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL OF YOUR TIME THAT YOU SPENT DOING JUST FOR "your kids"!
We are so sad that you are gone and believe me it will hit hard on the first night of football when you are not up in the booth "putting your voice to our children's names in a way that only you could do"! GOD BLESS YOU DAVE AND FROM OUR HEARTS TO YOURS, WE LOVE YOU!

GO COMETS!
WITH MUCH LOVE,
Beau and Patty Cross

BTW just had to say this to you one more time "GO BUCKS"!

Dear McCormick Family,
First and foremost, I extend my very deepest sympathy to each of you during this difficult time. May you find comfort in your memories of him and may you find peace knowing that he made a difference in so many young lives. Your son/brother was very well liked and he was such a positive and influential impact on the Coventry community and its students. He not only made sure that his students were learning in his classroom, but also made sure to personally know each and every student the best that he could. His consistent involvement with student activities from athletics to clubs was way more than I have ever seen from any one teacher. It was always nice to see such an enthusiastic and energized staff member that was encouraging to all and kept us motivated all of the time. With his passing, Coventry has certainly lost its "voice". I will always be thankful that I was fortunate enough to have known such an amazing teacher and friend. May we all never, ever forget his spirit. Mr. McCormick, a man of character who will be missed greatly and his passing from this life will not go unnoticed.

It's natural to struggle when trying to find just the right thing to say that truly represents how you feel sometimes. This is one of those times for me. Dave was my favorite teacher at PLCC. Truth be told, there is only one other teacher – EVER – that holds the same level of respect and remembrance in my heart. Dave had the most energetic personality and certainly an unconditional caring heart for his students. His unique and fun teaching style helped to make school (or at the very least his class) – an enjoyable place to go every day. I will never forget the Senior Breakfast he arranged for our class at TGIF's – definitely a memorable day that I have never forgotten. I feel very blessed that I had the opportunity to be one of his students. It's a very sad reality when someone like Dave is taken from this life too soon. My heart goes out to his family – especially his parents, as the loss of a child is nearly unbearable. I pray the McCormick Family will find some peace, not only in their memories, but also in the many memories being shared here. Godspeed, Dave. You will never be forgotten. See you on the other side.

Dave was a teacher at PLCC when I graduated in 1994. He really did a lot for the school. Bringing us our prom and organizing the Sr fair at the end of the year. He was also in charge of our honor society. He did a lot for the students and the school and had a way of teaching us that kept us teens interested in what he said. I still remember some of his lessons to this day. He was one of my most memorable teachers.

I had him my junior year of high school and he was an amazing teacher. Mr. & Mrs. McCormick you raised a wonderful man who had such a HUGE heart and impact on everyone he came in contact with. May god give you the strength and courage to go on during this difficult time. Also know you have a an angel watching over you.

Mr. McCormick was one of the greatest teachers I have ever been fortunate enough to have. He and Mr. Hutchinson were always my favorite teachers, and made the largest impact on my life. Without their guidance and enthusiasm to teach, I never would have realized my passion for teaching. I owe Mr. McCormick a lot, and could never have thanked him enough for all of his help and hard work. He will always live on in the hearts of his students, co workers, family, and friends. He was an amazing man and is now in heaven with the rest of the people we all hold near and dear in our hearts. I hope his family knows what a tremendously generous, helpful, and loved man he was. My thoughts and prayers are with his family as well as others who had the pleasure of knowing him. Until we meet again....

I am deeply saddened by David's passing. My sister Kathy & I grew up with "The McCormick Boys". I then had the pleasure of working with David at the little IGA. Ralph and Jane, I can't even imagine what you are feeling right now. Just know David is resting in the arms of Our Lord and waiting until you meet again. He will live in our hearts forever.

My deepest sympathies go out to the McCormick family. I never got the chance to Thank Mr. McCormick for everything he did for me, but I will never forget any of it. I still use many of the things he taught me throughout my life today. I will never forget making him listen to "Bringin' sexy back" and trying to convince him to dance with me, although it never worked! You will be truly missed by everyone who knew you, I wish you could see how many lives you've changed! RIP

I was so saddened when I heard of Mr. McCormick passing. I was a student of his at the PLJVS. He was one the best teachers I had. I can still picture his class, every space on the chalkboard had notes that we would copy in our notebooks. To this day every time I hear a Hewy Lewis song I still think of him. I will remember our class trip to Washington and how he dared some of the students to run up the down escaltors to see if they could beat him to the top. It is a shame that there are students that will never have the chance to learn from him. My prayers go out to the family.
