Dorothy (Ditzer) Abdenour (nee Miller)|
Dorothy Abdenour, 78, passed away surrounded by her family March 28, 2007 after a long illness, leaving the world a richer, but smaller place.
She was born January 30, 1929 and remained an Akron area resident all her life. She attended Buchtel High School and the University of Akron where she majored in English and became a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was first employed at Goodyear and later worked in the Medical Records and Cancer Registry departments of Akron General Medical Center until she retired in 1991.
Dorothy served as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts, was a member of Akron's WITAN, the Akron Woman's City Club, and also was active in the Little Flower Garden Club. A woman of unwavering faith, Dorothy was a life-long parishioner of St. Sebastian church where she served as a member and president of the Sanctuary Society. More recently, she volunteered at the St. Sebastian Rectory until being limited by her illness.
In 1947, she met the love of her life, Joe. The two were married in 1952 and spent 47 years together while raising six children. No one loved her family more. A kind soul, she was the greatest companion and caregiver to her husband, dearest friend, and the best mom ever. Dorothy enjoyed playing tennis and golf, and was an avid fan of all Cleveland and Ohio State sports teams. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, get-togethers with her family, the spoils of grandchildren, playing dominoes, and the company of so many marvelous friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Joseph; her beloved son, Michael; parents, Helen and Frank Miller, Sr.; brother, Frank Miller, Jr.; and sister, Nadine Miller of the Humility of Mary. She leaves her precious daughters, Patty of Lakewood, Susan Foley (Jay) of Cuyahoga Falls, and sons, Beau of Shaker Heights, Stephen (Marguerite) of Richfield, and Tom (Marcela) of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandsons, Michael, David, and Joseph; and countless treasured friends.
