Gary E. Michael, 82, a lifelong Rootstown resident, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center in Akron surrounded by his family. |
He was born May 19, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to the late William and Goldie (Evans) Michael. Mr. Michael retired from the U.S. Postal service in Rootstown where he was a carrier and had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Rootstown 1st Congregational United Church of Christ, he also was very involved in the Roostown Community, retired Rootstown Small Business Partner after 20 years, serving as a township trustee for 23 years, the water board, Tri County Regional Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals. He enjoyed camping with his family, doing yard work and especially his flowers . Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Geraldine (Weiss) Michael; his children, Jeff (Debra) Michael of Rootstown, Greg Michael of Rootstown, Susan (David) Madlock of Akron, Jill (David) Fiser of Rootstown, John (Cheri) Michael of Rootstown; eight grandchildren; and brother, David Michael of Florida. In addition to his parents, Mr. Michael was preceded in death by his grandson, Austin Michael.
Calling hours will be from 10 a.m, Monday, April 8, 2013 until time of services at 11 a.m. at the Rootstown 1st Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Susan Woodall Officiating. Burial will follow in Homeland Cemetery Roostown, Ohio. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, Ohio 44333.
