Dear Family and Friends of George,
I was deeply saddened to learn of George's passing. I realize how difficult this time must be for you, as it is for me. George was my friend.
I knew George as a fellow Marine. We served together with Delta Company, 1st Battalion 7th Marines in Vietnam. Although that was over forty-three years ago, it seems only yesterday.
George was an outstanding Marine. He was courageous, generous, capable, dependable and honorable with an incredible sense of duty. So much so that he returned to Vietnam and completed a second tour with Delta 1/7.
That was an astonishing act of courage and devotion to his fellow Marines of Delta 1/7. It was not done without great danger and detriment to himself.
I know that all Delta 1/7 Marines join me in our undying tribute to him as our brother-in-arms and to mourn his passing. We will always remember him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I would like to offer my sympathy at George's passing away. As a fellow Marine who served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, I can attest to what I'm sure George told you, that war is a horrible thing. He was a part of a small number of us who served in combat and he knew what it was like to make yourself do things your mind didn't want. Eleanor Roosevelt said it best that "You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the things you think you cannot".
I'm am proud to have known him and proud to have served with him. We his brothers will miss him, but will never forget him.

Our deepest sympathy to all of George A. Cusma's family and friends. George spent a tour with we Delta 1/7 Marines in Vietnam. You can be very proud of George's service in the Marine Corp., especially when George was with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division in 1967 thru 1968. George was an outstanding Marine and was well liked by his fellow Marines. In combat he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his bravery and heroic actions above and beyond the call of duty. George was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart medal for his combat wounds. George was an outstanding Marine and a great person and we will miss him greatly. George will never be forgotten by his Delta 1/7 Marine Brothers. The battle is now over for George and he will live with God in peace forever more. We will miss you Marine George Cusma.

George Cusma
Today, we remember George Cusma Jr. My father truly enjoyed all the beauty and excitement that this world had to offer. George adored Nancy, his loving wife of 28 years. He was a devoted Son, a brother, and a United States Marine. As a Husband, he was a source of comfort, a bright light full of life, and a man that will forever be in Nancy’s heart. As a father, he was teacher, a demonstrator of hard work, a guide to enjoying the best that nature has to offer, and a fun, energetic grandfather. As a Son, he respected his Father, and was the most loyal son any Dad could ask for. As a Brother, he was always good for a laugh with a practical joke . My father expressed how truly blessed he was to share the last two months with his sister, Cindy by his side. As a friend, he would push everyone to enjoy the day just a little bit more and was quick to help without hesitation. His friends were a huge part of his life for many decades and a part of our family.
As we stand here today, at Western Reserve Memorial to honor Corporal George Cusma, I want you to know how truly humble he was about his outstanding, military service. It was decades later that he received his medals and never did he brag, boast, or want a fuss made about his courageous, bravery. I can say without hesitation – he thought of himself as a soldier that was just doing what was right to protect his brothers in the service.
Corporal Cusma was honored with The Bronze Star for taking the fight to the enemy without due regard for himself. He was also recognized with The Purple Heart for being wounded on the front line. His military experience was characterized by faithfulness to ensure the freedoms of the United States that are not free.
Words can never express the loss that we feel having to say good-bye for now. We remember the laughter, wave the sadness good-bye, and remember the passion George had for living. We look forward to carrying on his memory. On behalf of my father, l would like to give special thanks to Nancy who never left my Dad’s side. She was his source of inspiration. Cindy, my father’s sister, a special appreciation for faithfully being there daily with my dad, over the last few months. Your compassion and diligence positively impacted my Dad receiving the best of care and comfort. My admiration is overwhelming.
My father certainly would have liked to stay around a bit longer. I have to say in closing that the man that we are all here to honor will dearly be missed. Remember him with a smile.
