Thank all of you for your kind words in remembrance of my dear son,Jerry. He was a wonderful son who brought joy to the lives of our family in countless ways. I have returned to this page many times since his passing, and your remembrances touch my heart anew each time I read them.
Jerry's work in prosthetics lives on in the Dominican Republic at the Gerald Lee Martin Memorial Clinic. Students who are studying at the university there get practical experience in the clinic, treating those who would not otherwise have the benefit of modern prosthetic and orthotic care.
I think this living memorial is fitting for Jerry, serving both his passion in caring for his patients and his desire to bring other talented young people into the field . Lets all pray that his compassion for others is infused into each of the students who study there.

Kitty and Pop, I am sorry to respond so late, but I just learned of Gerry's death. I was looking to find you again, and was terribly saddened by his passing. It comes as no surprise that he grew up to be quite a mensch, and an expert in his field. I'll never forget him.

I met Dr. Gerry Martin 4 months after my LBK amputation February 2008 at Manuchant in Jamaica. I discussed with him the possibilities of being fitted with a prosthetic leg payment etc. We became friends immediately and he gave me a physical examination after which he stated that my surgeon did an excellent job. I immediately allowed him to talk with my surgeon and both of them had a lengthy discussion about me.
I flew to FT. Lauderdale last August after many emails and phone calls I met my beloved Dr. Gerry again in Person. I was greeted with a warm welcome as he started working on my mould for my prosthetic leg. 2 days after I did a fitting for my leg. After almost 3 years confined to a wheelchair I stood up and make several careful steps between the bars under his watchful eyes. That was one of the Happiest days in my life. I have been given back my independence, my self-esteem, and I found a true friend in Dr. Gerald Martin.
My heart aches terribly, but I thank God that I was given the opportunity to meet one of the kindest souls I have ever met. Walk good Dr. Martin

Am deeply saddend to hear of your loss. I met Jerry many years ago when he came from Virginia to Ft. Lauderdale to practice at Archway. I also have a practice in Broward County and we enjoyed working together with patients. We often had our lunches together at seminars and had the best of conversations. He will be sorely missed.

I have known Jerry through the prosthetics world for many years. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his untimely passing. He was always a pleasure to talk to and very kind to me. Seemed to always have a smile on his face no matter what was going on. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and close friend.

Jerry was a special friend to me..we only met in august of this year and became good friends. I would make him his favorite things to eat and bring them to his house. He loved oatmeal/raisin cookies and we would munch on them and talk about family, and his passion for his work making people walk again. His new office in New Port Richey brought him so much joy and he was so proud of the place he could finally call "HIS OWN". He had an infectious smile and beautiful blue eyes that would light up when you talked about his grandma gross who he talked with several times a day. We would sit on the bank of the canal at his home and feed the aligator and he told me about his grandfather watching that aligator for hours.I am so glad that I have pictures of him to remember him by and cherish forever,I will miss him to the dept of my soul but am a much richer person for sharing time with him. I hope he is at peace now and with his grandfather watching the aligator on the canal
His dear friend forever

To The Martin Family: I never did have the pleasure of meeting Jerry, but he did have a profound and positive effect on my son, Cameron Lehrer. Jerry gave Cameron his first job as an Orthotics/Prosthetics technician, and was his first mentor in the field, encouraging Cameron to complete his college education in Orthotics and Prosthetics. Through Jerry's help and mentoring, a "light switched on" in Cameron's mind, and he set forth on a career in the O&P field. Cameron and his family are extremely grateful for the interest Jerry showed in Cameron, and the help and encouragement he gave Cameron. We will forever be grateful to Jerry, and we grieve deeply for your loss. Sincerely, Thomas H. Lehrer
