Harvetta A. Shook Gammell
RITTMAN -- Harvetta A. Shook Gammell, 91, of Rittman, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Summa Barberton Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1923 in Wadsworth to the late Harvey and Hazel (Holbein) Shook and was a life resident of Rittman.
Harvetta graduated from Rittman High School in the class of 1941 and married Franklin Gammell December 24, 1958; he preceded her in death in 1967.
She was co-owner of Shook Lumber Company for 42 years until retiring in 1982. She was a devoted member of the Milton Presbyterian Church in Rittman. She served as the church Treasurer for 16 years; was the Choir Director for 27 years; participated in the bell choir; and delivered Meals on Wheels for 12 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling.
Surviving is sister, Lois May Loney of Cuyahoga Falls; cousins, Donna (Dean) Shook Yoder of Canton, Raynor (Laura) Shook of Rittman and Nina Shook of Wadsworth; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Franklin; grandparents, Walter and Maud Shook; and twin brothers, Robert and Richard Stuart.
Service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Milton Presbyterian Church, 250 N. Street, Rittman, with Rev. Alex K. Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Milton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 306, Rittman, OH 44270. We were deeply blessed to have an aunt like "Aunt Harvetta". Her genuine care and love for our family was like no other. We will miss her dearly. Our family has a hole that cannot be filled, but we rejoice in The Lord that we will see you again in heaven!
