Helen earned her angel wings and is at peace in God's arms after a long illness. On April 17, she joined her beloved husband of 54 years, Forrie, and parents, Louie and Ruth (Keller) Schaaf.
Born in Akron on July 9, 1926, she attended St. Sebastian School and graduated from St. Vincent High School. After graduating, she married the love of her life, Forrie, and they started their family. Helen loved to sing and dance and showed her talents by performing in many plays at the Goodyear Theatre and by entertaining her family and many friends. Helen and Forrie spent 32 years living in Florida, but kept Akron in their hearts. They came back home in 1999, to be close to family and friends.
Helen will live on in the hearts of her daughter and "son," Ruth and Richard Stimac of Norton; son and "daughter," Chuck and Debbie Am merman of Akron; grandchildren, Eric and Ryan Stimac, and Maren, Egan, and Sean Ammerman; and many other relatives and friends.
Words cannot begin to describe what she was and meant to us as a Mother, Grandma, Nana, and Friend. She put up a courageous battle and was an inspiration to all who came into her life. A special thanks to all the special nurses and staff at Pleasantview Healthcare Center and VNS, who helped Helen keep her dignity, while caring for her with so much compassion.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hummel Funeral Home, COPLEY/Fair lawn Chapel, 3475 Copley Rd., with a memorial and prayer service following at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made in Helen's name to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service.
