James A. Davies, 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Ohio Veterans Home after a lengthy illness.

Jim was born on March 10, 1926 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to the late Henry Thomas and Catherine (Howell) Davies. Jim graduated from Martins Ferry High School and was a graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelors Degree in Education. He was a Veteran of the Air Force who proudly served his country as a photo lab technician and gunner during World War II. He worked in the engineering department as a draftsman at Goodyear Aerospace before retiring from Barberton High School after 16 years as a vocational drafting instructor. He was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Cuyahoga Falls. He was a charter member of Stow Presbyterian church as a deacon, an Elder, and helped as a computer technician. He was also a member of the Cuyahoga Falls Wing Foot Flyers Club, Lions Club and VFW of Munroe Falls. Jim received his pilot's license and in his spare time he enjoyed flying airplanes, photography, computers and woodworking.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Violet (Scott) Davies. He is also survived by his daughter, Barbara Withrow of Vermilion; sons, Carl (Jeanne) Davies of Cuyahoga Falls, and Richard (Linda) Davies of Elizabeth, W. Va.; four grandchildren, Brian Martin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Eric (Christina) Martin of Fort Rucker, Ala., Brittany Davies of Orlando, Fla., and Jacob Davies of Cuyahoga Falls; numerous stepgrandchildren; sister-in-law, Bertha Scott of Burning Springs, W. Va.; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Hopkins and brothers, Wyndam and Howell Davies.

Friends may call Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio. The Rev. Paul Birmingham will officiate the service. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
