James (Jimmy) Eliadis

James Eliadis, 89, surrounded by family, love and prayers, passed away on his birthday, August 15th. He officially became the new "House Dancer" for Heaven.

He was born in Piraeus, Greece August 15, 1925. He graduated from Canton Timken High School and The University of Akron. He served in the United States Navy. Jimmy married the love of his life, Helen Caruso. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox in 1991 with nearly 40 years of service.

Jimmy's joy in life was dancing. He used to say, "I live to dance" and dance he did. He was featured by several articles in the Akron Beacon Journal and entertained people of all ages at numerous prominent venues including Red Fox, Benito's, Pro Football Hall of Fame Parade, Rockin' on the River, Rusty Nail, Stow Library, Happy Valley Center and was a guest dancer for Cuyahoga Valley Youth Ballet. He also served as the president of the EarlyJas Society.

He was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary church and led the "Mother of Sorrow Funeral Choir" succeeding his wife Helen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen of 47 years and parents, Elias and Sophia Eliadis.

He is survived by sons, Mark, Luke and devoted daughter-in-law, Kim; loving granddaughters, Brooke and Kelly; brother, Gust Eliadis; sister, Betty Yaghoot; brother-in-law, Burton Wilfong; niece, Marianne Marzano (Philadelphia); and great-nephew, Charles Anthe.

We would like to thank Dr. Atul Giswomi for his wonderful care for Jimmy over the last year. We would also like to thank Doug Green and the Redfox family.

Family and friends will celebrate the man, the myth, the legend, at Cirello and Carr Funeral Home, 810 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, followed by Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

We had the good fortune of meeting Jimmy years ago at the Italian Festival in Cuyahoga Falls. He asked our daughter who was 4 at the time to dance with him. She did and we took pictures. She is now 14 and still talks about how fun he was and how she hopes she can be as fun and outgoing as he was. Heaven has gained a true angel - dancing his way in.

We always enjoyed watching Jimmy (at various venues) up in front of the band, dancing the night away. He had the energy of a 20 year old! GodSpeed Jimmy! Lisa R-D

I had the privilege of dancing with Mr. Eliadis several years ago at Benitos. On my first visit to this club, I noticed a man in his 70s dressed in formal clothes of white pants, black suspenders and a red hat. His outfit grabbed my attention, but his dancing held my gaze! He danced with the grace of a much younger man! I noticed him inviting women of all ages to dance. It appeared as if he was teaching a Master class! I was excited to be one of those included! His style was free-form with elements of Jitterbug and Swing thrown in; My kind of dancing! Mr. Eliadis explained to me his decision to continue dancing even though he had lost his favorite partner, his wife. He had a very generous spirit! I will always remember the pure joy of dancing with your father! My condolences to you and your family.

At Benito's, Jimmy would shout, "Ho Helen," at the top of his lungs. Then they would hit the dance floor and jump around like kids. This was usually after Jimmy had already danced with everyone in the house.

They were a wonderful couple and Jim was definitely one of a kind. I know all Benito's regulars will be saddened by this news.

Dancing is good for the soul and Jimmy had a huge soul. Deepest condolences to the family for your loss.

I danced with Jimmy many years ago at Benito's. I never knew his last name, but his smile and love of dancing made him a friend to us all. Your father was a unique man who made an impression on all who met him.

I am saddened by the loss, but at the same time I have to smile knowing that he will take his perpetual smile and joy to heaven.

I worked with "Dancing Jim" for years and he always carried that smile and joy for living.

Keep on dancing and smiling Jim, you will be missed.

This news saddened me terribly. Jimmy is/was a legend and a true icon of our small city. Ever since I was a little girl I always called him the "dancing man". Danced with him a few times at various events throughout the years and loved every step . He even used to stop by my yearly yard sales just to say Hello and give a private dance show. I will miss him but know he is not any farther away then in our hearts and memories. Rest Peacefully dear friend :)

My prayers of comfort go out to Jimmy's family. To Jimmy, who I am sure is dancing with his beloved Helen in heaven...thank you for asking me to dance at Benito's and the Red Foxx with you; I always had so much fun with you showing me the steps even though I am 30+ years younger it was hard to keep up with you! Thank you also for sharing your stories about your beloved wife, I am happy that you get to dance together again. Much love
