James Murray Edwards

James Murray Edwards, 78, went home to be with the Lord after a long illness.

Born in Macon, Miss., moved to Kent, Ohio in 1938 but resided in Akron Ohio most of his life. He was a member of Spellman AME Chapel, a veteran serving more than ten years in Naval Air, had been employed at General Motors for more than 20 years, was a member of the American Legion, VFW, NRA and UAW.

Preceded in death by his mother and father, Essie and Richard Edwards; brothers, Holley and Joe; sons, Duane Edwards and June Foster. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley; daughters, Linda (David) Campbell, Angela (Norman) Davis, Antoinette Edwards and Starr Beamon; sons, Tommy Cammon; special son, John (Cathy) Thomas; sister, Jennie (Dave) Lowe; brother, Richard (Alice) Edwards; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Rhoden Memorial Home, 1101Palmetto Ave. with Rev. Keith Jones officiating. Friends may call at the chapel on Monday from 12 noon until time of service. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 575 Delmar Ave., 44310.
