Jean M. Holden Obituary
Jean M. Holden

Jean M. Holden, a 53 year resident of Hudson, Ohio, died peacefully at her home at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, surrounded by her family, on July 21, 2018. She was 90 years old, born on February 27, 1928 in London, England, daughter of A.G. Timbrell Fisher and Grace Bond. She took correspondence courses from Cambridge during World War 2 and studied vocal music at the Royal College of Music from 1946-1949. In 1950, she married Patrick C. Holden (who predeceased her in 2014) and together they had four children, Richard (Cyndie), Mark (Rebecca), David (Cecilia) and Jennifer (Geoffrey). They relocated, first to Canada then to Hudson, in 1965, becoming U.S. Citizens in 1970. Jean was a tireless and devoted mother and wife, whose occupational passion was singing and volunteering. She dedicated herself to many prestigious musical organizations, including the Cleveland Orchestra and Blossom Music Center. She served on the Blossom Women's Committee for 33 years (including a period as State Chair). She was widely praised for co-founding and co-chairing the highly successful Gourmet Matinee Series, whose proceeds supported the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center for well over a decade under her leadership. She also sang soprano in numerous ensembles, including the Blossom Festival Chorus (during Christoph von Dohnanyi's tenure ), London Chamber Singers, D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, The Encores and, for 45 years, at Christ Church Episcopal in Hudson. Jean loved life, family, church, music, travel and gardening. She was deeply loved by all who knew her. Her goodness, kindness and loving nature were matched only by her intelligence, wisdom, insatiable curiosity and effervescent smile. She will be greatly missed.

Jean is survived by her daughter and three sons, her two granddaughters, Avery and Whitney; six grandsons: Matthew, Michael, Russell, John, Luke and William; two stepgranddaughters, Kimberly and Brittany, and one stepgrandson, James; two great grandchildren, Calder and Mira, and three great-step grandchildren, Jackson, Graylynd and Theodore.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora Street, Hudson, Ohio, 44236 on September 15, 2018 at 2 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made in Jean's name to Christ Church Episcopal in Hudson or to The Cleveland Orchestra. Arrangements by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, Hudson, Ohio. www.johnsonromito.com
