John "Jack" A. Bader|
John "Jack" Bader, of Akron, died peacefully with his family by his side on June 26, 2007, after a short illness.
Jack was born February 7, 1923 in Akron, Ohio, he graduated from St. Vincent High School, attended Akron University, and served his country in World War II in the Army. Jack was a man of deep faith and an active parishioner of St. Hilary Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and usher. He was a member of the Akron Roundtable, Akron Kiwanis, and Portage Country Club. He was a co-founder and owner of Ohio Gasket & Shim Co. Jack enjoyed boating on the lakes, checking out antique cars, and getting together with many long-time friends. Of all his many accomplishments, Jack was most proud of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte (nee Halter) and Stephen A. Bader; sisters, Mary Virginia Firestone and Eileen Wise; and brother, Lawrence Bader.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara (nee Dettling). He left a legacy of integrity to his children: Mary (Thomas) Cochran, Virginia (Michael) McGuckin, Jeff (Linda) Bader, John (Karen) Bader, Thomas (Annette) Bader, and David (Pam) Bader. He was "Papa Jack" to his 18 grandchildren: Michael, Matt, Michelle, Kelly, Katy, Molly, Dan, Tim, Emily, Sarah, Christopher, Jessica, Kevin, Andrew, Matthew, Ryan, Alexandra, and Joshua. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, brother, Richard Bader, and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 30 at 9:30 a.m. a.m. at St. Vincent Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. FUNERAL PROCESSION WILL FORM AT THE CHURCH.
