John McCaffrey Obituary

John Paul "Pete" McCaffrey, 73, passed on Sunday, March 4, 2012.

He was a resident of Bellaire, Fla. and was born in Tucson, Ariz. and raised in Kansas City, Mo. Pete was a graduate of St. Louis University, Michigan State, and spent most of his career working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, located in Akron, Ohio. Among Pete's many accomplishments, he was an Olympic gold medalist (1964 basketball), a three time All American (1962, 1963, and 1964) and is a member of the St. Louis University Hall of Fame. He enjoyed friends, golf and spending time with his family.

Pete was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius and his mother Caroline. Pete is survived by his wife, Zara; brother, Neil (Sally); sons, Paul (Karen) and Patrick (Deanna); daughter, Madeline; and grandchildren, Halen, Collin, Kathryn and Sean.

In accordance with Pete's wishes, there will be no public memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Suncoast Hospice (Woodside House), 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760. Abbey Funeral Services, Inc. 12541 Ulmerton Rd. Largo, FL 33774.
