TALLMADGE -- John W. Baer, 68, passed away July 19, 2014 after a courageous battle with heart disease.
Born in Akron, John lived all his life in Tallmadge. He graduated from Tallmadge High School in 1965 and attended The University of Akron. He retired from Tops after 27 years of service with the UFCW grocery union.
He was a member of East Market St. United Church of Christ and was a long-standing member of the Lake Milton Boat Club. He loved fishing, boating, and gardening. John was active with the Rubber City Kennel Club and the Boy Scouts of America.
John was preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Bertha A. Baer; and brother, Robert.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, John R. (Kathleen) Baer and Christopher Baer; granddaughter, Lily Jane, all of Tallmadge; sisters, Ethyl Ann Lewis, Irene Brandt, both of Green, and Margaret (Richard) Krier of N. Canton; and brothers-in-law, James Perrine, Richard (Mary) Perrine, and Bernard Perrine.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle) with Pastor David Brown and Reverend Debbie Rhinesmith officiating. Interment will be at Tallmadge Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the funeral home.
