Joseph Klope Obituary

Hyannis, Mass. -- Joseph Chester Klope, 87, beloved husband of Ann Lou and former resident of Portage Lakes, died peacefully April 1, 2011 after a period of declining health. Born Josef Klopotowski in Poland, he immigrated to America at the age of 6, was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (BSME, '44), a member of Alpha Tau Omega, and proudly served his country in World War II as a 2nd Lt. and Engineering Officer in the U.S. Merchant Marines. He was a licensed Professional Engineer with the Pfaudler Co. in Rochester, N.Y.; President and General Manager of Pfaudler-Permutit of Canada; and Eastern Sales Manager for Sybron and Carborundum of Rochester.

His love, pride and unwavering support were never doubted by his children, Christine (Paul) Greeley of Mass., Susan Klope of New York, Joanne (Daniel) Shamp of Florida (formerly of Bath), Joseph Chester (Chet) Klope, Jr. (Margot) of New Jersey and Aileen (Edwin) Niehaus of Akron. He was an adoring ``Bompa' of 10 including his local grandchildren Mark (Jessica) Shamp, Stephen (Shannon) Shamp, Samuel and Haydn Niehaus and great-grandfather of six including Alexa, Tyler and Logan Shamp.

He was a proud member of the Portage Lakes Kiwanis Club, and will be affectionately remembered for ``Joe's Joke' told to generate contributions at their meetings.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, N.Y., on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portage Lakes Kiwanis Club, 725 Portage Lakes Drive, Akron, OH 44319. For a private family guest book and service directions, visit www.brycefh.com.

I didn't know your loved one, Joseph Klope, but you must be very proud of the life he lived and the love he had for your family. My grandfather was Zygismund Peretko, and I know we are distantly related. My sincere sympathy for your loss.

My sincere condolences to all the Klope family. I felt a great love and respect for your father, and I cannot imagine a man any happier,or more at peace, than he was to leave this world knowing what an AMAZING life and family he had . His devotion to Annlou was obvious , and all YOUR devotion to both your parents is inspirational .
I'll always love Joseph "Klopotowski" !!! hugs Maria Nickerson Cholanian

To Joe's Family: We just loved your Dad and Grandfather, and your mother, Ann Lou. We are members of the Portage Lakes Kiwanis and so enjoyed his stories and jokes at every meeting. He always felt we should end a meeting that way, and since he left have tried to honor him with weekly jokes in his name!! We will miss him! Vicki and Charlie Kepnes
