Leanoir R. Fortney

Leanoir R. Fortney, a woman of uncommon strength, dignity and grace, died peacefully in her sleep on December 30, 2010.

A 17-year resident of Annapolis, she was living at the home of her daughter, Rebecca F. Greco.

Leanoir was born July 19, 1917 to the late Marie Anderson in Bellaire, Ohio, where she grew up in a large household with seven cousins. She graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where she met her husband, Ernest F. Fortney, Sr. They were wed in 1938.

A lifelong homemaker and mother, Leanoir raised four children in Akron, Ohio, Windsor, Vermont, and St. Mary's, Ohio, as her husband was transferred to these communities by his employer, Goodyear Tire. Her family was her life. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf, and above all, supporting her children's activities.

Leanoir was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest (1987) and her granddaughter, Heather Fortney (2010). She is survived by her four children, Ernest Fortney, Jr. of Arlington, Washington, Rebecca of Annapolis, Dennis Fortney (Lori) of Grasonville, Maryland, and Timothy Fortney of Annapolis; two grandchildren, Shawna F. Beresford of Lynnwood, Washington and Shane Fortney of Seattle, Washington; six great-grandchildren; and one cousin, John Gianangeli (Carolyn) of Bellaire, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Burial will be private.
