Melissa K. Norden (nee Gillig), 35, passed away unexpectedly June 13, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.|
She was a 1995 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and alumni of ETC Show Choir. She loved music, always had a song in her heart, and brought smiles and music to all she met. Melissa loved spending time with her grandmother at "the lake." She will be remembered for her wonderful smile, her loving and caring nature and love for her numerous family members and countless friends. Melissa never knew a stranger and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was most recently employed at Discount Drug Mart in Cuyahoga Falls. She enjoyed each and every person she encountered there, whether they were fellow employees or customers.
Preceded in death by brother, Erik; grandfathers, Art Pittinger and Ralph Gillig; and mother-in-law, Linda Norden; she is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; mother, Kathleen (Richard) Hughes; father, Bruce (Shari) Gillig; brothers, Bruce, Stefan and Mark (Audra); stepbrothers, Shawn (Kellie) Adams, Matthew (Jessy) York and Alan Hughes; sisters, Yvonne (John) Ams, Leah (Nathan Monroe) Gillig and Mary Gillig; stepsister, Heather (Rob) Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She will be deeply missed by her many close friends, too numerous to mention, who were also like family to her.
Her family wishes to extend their thanks to the entire staff of Summa (Akron City) Hospital, especially the wonderful people on 7 East. The entire staff made Melissa's numerous visitors feel at home and cared for. We also will be forever grateful to Dr. Margie Gerina-Lewis and her staff at Summa Western Reserve, who travelled this path with her.
