Phillip was born to the late Rev. Samuel Rufus and Ora Mae Carson on October 27, 1934. As a young man, he was a boxer and maintained a lifelong passion for cars. He retired from the RCA Rubber Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Samuel R. and Ora Mae Carson; sisters, Ora Neida Foshee, Mae Carolyn Hodges, and Sylvia Grace Griffin; and brothers, Jimmy Eugene Carson, Sr., William Rosenwald Carson, and Daniel George Carson.
He leaves behind his cherished and devoted wife of 56 years, Vera; along with his children, Phillip Jr. of Chevy Chase, Md., Deborah (Jerry) Carson-Walters of Akron, Ohio, David Sr. (LaRita) of Lawrenceville, Ga., Terrance and Donovan of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren, Terrell, Darius, David Jr., Brittany, DeMontae', and Amarianna; great-granddaughter, R'yiana; sisters, Gloria (Barney) Rasor of Fayetteville, N.C. and Emma (Donnie) Whitworth of Akron, Ohio; brothers, Samuel R. (Janet) Carson, Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Duane Stephen Carson of Akron, Ohio; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at the Original Church of God, 807 Coburn Street, Akron, Ohio, on Friday, October 5, 2012 at noon. Visitation will take place one hour prior to service at 11 a.m. The family of Phillip L. Carson, Sr. encourages those that can, to donate to the
