Roy Anthony Taylor|
Roy Anthony Taylor, at the age of 56, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 16, 2012.
He was born a twin August 22, 1956 in Akron, Ohio to the late Homer Taylor Sr. and Eva Mae Taylor. Roy attended Akron Public Schools. Roy was baptized at an early age and a long-time member of New Hope Baptist Church. His hobbies were motorcycling and horseback riding, but he also loved fishing, camping, traveling, sports, playing dominoes and all good music.
Roy was also known as a fire bug. He volunteered his service to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He was also a school bus driver and instructor in Los Angeles, Calif. and Akron, Ohio. He was a heavy equipment truck driver for 30 plus years and was last employed at Halasa Trucking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Taylor, Sr. and Eva Mae Taylor; twin brother, Troy Taylor, Robert Taylor; and sister, Mettie Smith. Roy leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Thomas and Kevin Sommerville, Pamela "Girly" Jackson, Brandon Caine of Akron, Ohio, Cortney Taylor of Childersburg, Ala., and Rae (Terrance) Hill of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred (James) Ward; brothers, Homer (Betty) Taylor, Jeffery Taylor; significant other, Ms. Dalana Thompson; and a host of family and friends.
Service will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1706 S. Hawkins, Ave., Akron, OH 44320, Rev. David Nelson eulogizing and Rev. George McNab officiating. Friends may visit at the church from 12 p.m. until time of service. Procession will form at 1664 Stimson St., Akron, OH 44320 and condolences may be sent to 1075 Joy Ave., Akron, OH 44306.
