Scott Ruby Obituary

Scott Rhys Ruby, of Columbus, Ohio, born November 7, 1960 in Akron, Ohio, passed away quietly March 5, 2011 at his home in Columbus. He had fought a long battle with a brain injury suffered in a fall in 2006.

Scott was a graduate of Firestone High School in Akron, Ohio, and The Ohio State University. Professionally, he was a very successful industrial salesman having earned several national awards.

He is survived by his parents, James and Joan Ruby of Akron, Ohio and Ramrod Key, Florida; his brother, Dr. Bret (Denise) Ruby of Chillicothe, Ohio; Aunt Phyllis Griffiths of Silver Lake Ohio, Uncle Joseph (Sherry) Ruby of Westerville, Ohio, Aunt Darlene Ruby of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Aunt Marie (Patrick) Sauers of Akron, Ohio, and many cousins. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Glenn and Mildred Griffiths and Vito J. and Esther Ruby, and by his Uncle William (Phyllis) Griffiths of Silver Lake, Ohio.

Scott was generous and gregarious. He had an adventurous spirit - his passion was fishing, and he enjoyed shooting, sailing, diving, hiking, biking and travel.

He asked that he be cremated and the remains scattered over the reef of the Florida Keys - so that he could go fishing one more time. It shall be done.

My deepest sympathy to the Ruby family. Scott was a very kindhearted, generous person who was fun to be around. I remember him fondly from our days at Case Elementary, Litchfield and Firestone. You are in our prayers, Scott.

To the Ruby family,
I am so saddened to hear of Scott's death. Scott was a classmate of mine at Litchfield Junior High and Firestone High School. Spent may evenings at high school parties, sports' games, ad McDonald's on Friday nights hanging with Scott and friends back then. Always a handsome guy, always a smile on his face, and just as nice as they come.
I think I speak for the entire class of 1979 when I say how wonderful it was for all of us to spend the weekend with Scott for two nights for our 30th reunion in November 2009. It was great reconnecting with him there and on facebook. He was just as charming and handsome as ever!
May his fun spirit and all your cherished memories keep you going strong and get you through the coming tough days, weeks, months, and years to come. He was taken entirely too soon from this world, and will be missed by so many people in both the Akron and Columbus communities.
Prayers to all of you, and to Scott, that he may rest in peace, and that he was welcomed by those loved ones that left before him.
