Thomas J. Andrie

Thomas J. Andrie, age 79, of Ravenna passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Robinson Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born June 25, 1929, in Ravenna, a son of the late Gus and Irene (Bach) Andrie, Tom was a lifelong resident of Ravenna. He and his father operated Andrie & Son Painting and Wallpapering. Tom was a member of the First Congregational Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed performing magic and card tricks while living at Bryn Mawr Glen, and was active in horse racing with his standardbred horses. Tom was an avid sports fan and was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of sports.

Survivors include his daughter, Leigh Freeman of Elkin, N.C.; granddaughter, Nicole Freeman; stepchildren, William Damicone Jr. of Newton Falls, Cathrine Damicone of Cuyahoga Falls, Mary (Mike) Kubera of Cuyahoga Falls, Janet (Ed) Minick of Akron; stepgrandchildren, Andrew, Sara, and Joshua; niece, Bonnie Duncan; nephew, Von (Linda) Andrie; and also survived by his special friends, Anita Lewis and Sally Meyer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole Andrie in 1995; his son, Kurt Thomas Andrie; brother, Bill Andrie; and dear friend, Nancy Thompson.

Friends will be received Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be officiated by Reverend Pamela Canzater Cheney on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow with military honors at Maple Grove Cemetery.
