Tony Mark Kavali (Army, Retired), age 89, of Triangle, Virginia, passed away May 18, 2011, of congestive heart failure at his daughter's home in Triangle, Virginia.

He was born in Akron, Ohio, on December 29, 1921 to the late Antonia Bartolucci and John Kavali. He met Jean Allen in Providence, R.I., while on recruiting duty and they were married two weeks later at St Mark's Church in Riverside, R.I. on September 13, 1943.

Shortly after marrying Jean, Tony left for duty in Burma, India to proudly serve his country in the Second World War. A career soldier, he also served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was accompanied by his family on several overseas tours to areas such as Izmir, Turkey and Paris, France.

Tony was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star, the French Croix De Guerre and the Legion of Merit. After 30 years of distinguished service, Tony retired in 1970 with the rank of CW4.

Following his retirement from the Army, Tony worked for 15 years at the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore, as the facility manager. He lived most of the last 40 years in Severn, Maryland, where he pursued his passion for golf as a member of the Fort George G. Meade Golf Club. In 2009, he moved to Prince William County, Virginia, to be near his oldest daughter Toni.

Catalano of Triangle, Va., and Donna Sue Malloy and husband Patrick Malloy of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; four grandchildren, Michael and David Wilson, Tammy Moskos, and Candy McDowell; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Kavali of Kent, Ohio. Tony was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Orzes and Mary Skipper of Akron, Ohio; and brothers, Nicholas and Mark Kavali, of Akron, Ohio.
