Vern Reed, 88, of Akron, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011.|
He was born in Akron to the late Victor and Theresa Reed, and lived here all of his life. He was a lifetime member of St. Vincent's Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Melvin, and wife Joanne Sullivan Reed.
Vern was a graduate of St. Vincent's High School and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber in 1985 after 43 years of service. He was also a World War II veteran - serving in France, Germany, and the Philippines. During his wartime service, he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. Vern was a very active member of the Data Processing Management Association, serving in many capacities, achieving the Office of International Director. He enjoyed golf and bowling.
He is survived by sons, Thomas (Rose) of Merrimack, N.H., Paul (June) of Florida, George (Irina) of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Janis (Richard) Goings of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; granddaughter, Lauren (Vic) Reed Smart of Merrimack, N.H.; grandson, Alexander Reed of Columbus, Ohio; and great-grandson, Jacoby Reed of Merrimack, N.H. Vern is also survived by numerous relatives.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, where friends may call from 9 until service time. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Please, no flowers, donations can be made to the
