Virginia (Roberts) Chandler Obituary
Virginia (Roberts) Chandler

Virginia (Roberts) Chandler, age 85, has joyfully gone to eternity.

Preceded in death by her parents, Wilfrid H. and Alma A. Roberts; husband, Milford (Mel), and her brother William; she is survived by her children, Chalene (Henry) Osterman of Aurora, David (Wafa) Chandler of Copley, and Martha Chandler of Ellet; grandchildren, Brian (Glenda) and Kevin (Kristy) Gerber, Christopher and Leila Chandler, and Joshua Chandler; and great-grandsons, Matthew Gerber and Tyler, Justin, and Devin Gerber.

Virginia lived in Ironton, Ohio until her family moved to the Akron area. She graduated from Kenmore High School. She married Mel May 17, 1952 and they were happily married until his death in July of 1997.

She worked as a secretary for Akron Awning, North Hill Glass, and the company that was started by Mel, 3 R Sales and Service.

Virginia loved the Lord and was active in her church. She often volunteered for kitchen duty, VBS, and was the two and three year olds Sunday school teacher for many years at Grace Lutheran Church. She was leader for Girl Scout Troop 343 from its beginning at Portage Path School till the girls graduated from high school.

She loved being with her family and loved celebrating Christmas. She loved playing cards and word games. She was always up for a game of Text Twist.

Virginia was always happy and loving to everyone who crossed her path, and she will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

In true Virginia fashion, she planned everything for her funeral service, wanting nothing more than for everyone to enjoy and celebrate her life. We will celebrate her life on Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the chapel at Rockynol Senior Living Center (1150 W. Market Street, Akron) at 11 a.m. Mom always said there's no crying in dying so we hope you will be able to join us following the memorial for a wonderful meal she planned and help us remember the good times, the funny times, and the "typical Virginia" times.

In lieu of flowers, please make remembrances to the Rockynol Senior Living Center (1150 W. Market Street, Akron, OH 44313) or the Hospice Care Center located at 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, OH 44333.
