Walter Jones, Jr.

Walter Jones, Jr. transitioned to his eternal resting place on August 18, 2014, at his home surrounded by family.

Walter was an only child born to Rose Lee Jones. He and his wife, Bettie, were married for 53 years with three children born to their union. He was truly a family man and loved them dearly, instilling into his children to work hard and you will succeed.

Walter attended Central High School. He loved and played basketball from childhood to well into his adulthood also playing while he was in the military. He joined the Air Force in 1953 stationed in Japan. He received an honorable discharge in 1957. Walter was an active lifetime member and past Commander of the V.F.W. Rhine River Post 3618. He was a current member of the Mount Calvary Lodge #76 and Bezaleel Consistory #15 32nd Degree Mason. A lifetime member of Al Kaf Temple #109, Al Kaf Noble of the Year, Honorary Past Potentate, as well as, Assistant Treasurer and Recorder.

Walter worked many jobs here in Ohio retiring from Jeter Systems in 1999 where he worked as a material handler.

Walter was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Lee Jones and granddaughter, Ebony Nicole Jones. He leaves to cherish his memory loving wife, Bettie Jones; children, Alan (Tracie) Jones, Sharon (Roger, deceased) Winfrey, and Walter Len Jones; brother-in-law, Alberdeen (Sylvia) Thomas; grandchildren, Jazmine, Brandi, Theresa, Shaiana, LaRae', Tyler, DeAnthony, DeOnna, Denesia, DeMarcus, DeAngelo; five great-grandchildren; special cousins, Mary L. Jones and Henry (Billy) Clark; special friends, Joyce (Charles deceased) Parnell and Thomas (Bettye deceased) Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 12 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, Ohio 44307, Rev. Roderick Pounds eulogizing and Rev. Nate Poole officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until time of service; Masonic-Blue House service at 11 a.m. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 983 Hartford Ave., Akron, Ohio 44320.
