DOYLESTOWN -- Wayne A. Farmwald, age 82, took a walk with the Lord and died peacefully at his home on February 2, 2014, surrounded by his children.
He was born Ammon Wayne Farmwald in Plain City, Ohio on October 17th, 1931. He spent his childhood on an Amish family farm, raised primarily by his beloved aunts along with perhaps the most influential figure in his lifetime, his Grandfather and mentor Jake Farmwald. Wayne often spoke earnestly about these early years, fondly recalling that "Some of the happiest days of my life were when all I had was a ball of string and a frog in my pocket
Wayne spent his teen years in St. Louis, Missouri, and later Willard, Ohio, where he lived with his mother Elizabeth and stepfather Charles "Bob" Sharpe. Upon graduation from Willard High School, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge, he put himself through and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University. On July 17, 1959, he married Patricia, his loving wife of 48 years.
Wayne was hired by Allstate Insurance Company in 1964, where he excelled in his career as an Agent for 46 years. He was, by all accounts, a naturally gifted and determined salesman; he built a successful insurance agency in Fairlawn, Ohio, and worked countless hours alongside his own children in order to sustain his operation. Throughout the years, he won many awards and he and Pat travelled the world due to his efforts.
In his later years, Wayne enjoyed exercising at the Montrose Wellness Center, taking long walks, trading stocks online, and watching Fox News. He was, at heart, a proud card carrying conservative, and remarked numerous times that if one word were to be inscribed on his tombstone, that word should read "moderation." He regularly attended Grace Church in Wooster.
Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; Wayne is survived by his children, Sheri (Greg) Hahn, Wayne, Nancy, Robert (Traci) Farmwald, and Jennifer (Todd) Grable; and grandchildren, Gregory (Tara) Hahn, Jamie (Michael) Dhondt, Abigail and Cameron Grable, Madison, Isabelle, Chancellor, and Ryder Farmwald.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, 44230 with Wayne's good friend and ABF Leader, Bob Mitchell, officiating. A private burial will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
