Bill Scherer, 85, passed away on August 21, 2013. He was born in Akron, Ohio on January 22, 1928.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Russell; brother, Richard; sister, Rubye; and his beloved dog Yaco. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Gina (Rod) Harrison of Cincinnati and Vicky (Roger) Burley of Brandon, Fla.; stepsons, Scott (Rose), Jerry (Amy), and Kenny (Holly) Goodrich; grandchildren, Tim, Brian, Alex, Andrew and Austin as well as stepgrandchildren, Amanda, Kyle, Seth, Olivia and Andrew and five great-grandchildren.
Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948 as a medic. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. His passion was golfing, playing cards, bowling, rooting for his favorite football teams--OSU and Cleveland Browns--and spending time with his family.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle), with Chaplin Joseph Lee officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 2 hours prior to the service. Graveside service will be held immediately following at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be conducted by Mogadore VFW Post #8487.
"When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free!! Miss me a little, but not too long and not with your heads bowed low. Remember the love we once shared. Miss me - but let me go."
