Willie Henry Carlton, 84, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012.
He was born in Midway, Alabama to Sterling Carlton and Annie Bell Hooks Carlton. He was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was previously a member of Antioch Baptist Church and Greater Bethel Baptist Church. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox in Barberton, Ohio after 33 years of service. After retirement, he worked for 17 years as an Akron Police Department School Crossing Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Benjamin Carlton, Miller Carlton, John (Rotelia) Carlton; his sister, Mattie Walker (Edgar Sr.); and his sons, Charles Carlton and Minus Jenkins, Jr.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Lucille Carlton; children, Gloristeen (Elliott) McBride of Miami, Fla., Verdell (John) Macarthy of Columbus, Ohio, Geneva Carlton of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Melanie (Johnnie) Green, Glenda (Jimmie) Keaton, Deborah Jenkins, Kaylee Carlton, Mattie Carlton, Tommie (Kim) Jenkins and Travis Carlton, all of Akron, Ohio, Erickshia Carlton and DeAngelo Carlton of Detroit, Mich., Elder Rashaad (Krishanna) Carlton of Sacramento, Calif., Dynetta (Charles) Griffith of Dayton, Ohio, and Teia Carlton of Cincinnati, Ohio; special niece, Annie (Glenn) Jackson of Richton Park, Ill.; special cousins, Bill (Norma) Lock, Jr. of Lake City, Fla., and Rev. Billy R. Lock of Orlando, Fla.; brother-in-law, Roosevelt (Ida) Murphy of Philadelphia, Pa. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1706 S. Hawkins Ave., Akron, OH 44320. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may visit at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1578 Sunsetview Drive West, Akron, OH 44320.
