Winifred S. Lipps (Nemes) (Oberlin) Obituary
On Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, Winifred S. Lipps was reunited with all her loved ones who have gone before.

She was born in Chicago, Ill. on May 25, 1922 to Susan (Zapka) and Harold V. Oberlin, and they soon returned to the Akron area where Winifred lived her entire life. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1940, and with the start of World War II, worked alongside her father at Firestone Tire, inspecting the breech castings for anti-aircraft guns.

Winifred attended Kent State University and, in the fall of 1949, married Joseph L. Nemes, and thereafter her main interest and passion was her family. After raising and guiding her sons in their teenage years, she as able to return to school, and while working full time at Polsky's Dept. Store, she finished her teaching degree at Akron U. in 1965. She married Donald R. Lipps in 1969, and continued teaching grade school in Akron and surrounding districts. Upon retiring, she volunteered for several more years with Project Learn, helping older adults improve their reading and writing skills.

With her giving nature and desire to help others, countless people over the years were helped in their time of need, by her kindness and support. These qualities were passed on to her son, Joe, who also had a passion for helping others less fortunate.

Winifred's other cause was animals. Never once was a neglected, hungry, or sick animal ever turned away. Dozens and dozens, if not hundreds of animals over the years, passed through her hands on their way to a good home, or remained as her pets for their whole lives. She will also be remembered for her always sunny disposition and positive outlook, even in her own times of great loss and personal disappointments.

In addition to her parents, Winifred was preceded in death by her son, Joseph K. Nemes; husbands, Joseph K. Nemes and Donald R. Lipps; and sisters, Evelyn Neilsen, Charlotte Oberlin, and Donna Welch. She leaves to mourn her passing but celebrate her homegoing, son, Paul V. Nemes; grandson, Paul N. Nemes; brother, Harold B. Oberlin (wife, Josephine); and special nephew, David Oberlin, all of the Akron area; brother-in-law, Josiah Welch of Newburyport, Mass.; and very dearest friend from Kent State, Bettina Strongoli of Sausalito, Calif.; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

A very sincere and heartfelt thank you goes to the staff of Doylestown Health Care, whose level of care and compassion for Mom truly made them her guardian angels here on earth. Thank you to all.

Cremation has taken place as per her wishes. A celebration of her life will be held at Emmanuel United Church of Christ (16 Eastern Rd., Doylestown, across from Silver Creek Park). This will be the kind of get-together Winifred enjoyed the most: informal with family, good friends, and good food. So come as you are, whenever you can between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron (7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087), to the Haven of Rest Ministries (P.O. Box 547, Akron, OH 44309-0547), or to one's . Please view Winifred's Book of Memories at www.dunn-quigley.com where you may leave condolences.
