Ashley Carpenter Carpenter-Kohler Obituary
Ashley (18) and David (14) passed away suddenly following a horrible incident on December 31, 2013.
Ashley was a senior at Barberton High School where she worked hard to stay on track for graduation in May. Ashley was very active in the high school band.
David attended Barberton Middle School, where he was in the 8th grade. He also worked hard in school and was a member of the band.
Both Ashley and David enjoyed hanging out with friends, laughing, listening to music, playing video games and football. They were wonderful children and did anything they could to help out everyone.
Ashley and David are preceded in death by their Grandfather, Butch Kohler; Great-Grandparents, John and Mildred Szitas; Great Grandfather, Alvin Ernest Riffle; and Aunt, Francis Riffle Mitchell.
Ashley and David are survived by their mother, Leiha Carpenter; Father, John Kohler; Grandmother, Patricia Riffle-Carpenter; Siblings, Russell Kohler, Amber (Miles) McClure, Amanda Stephens, Brittany Stephens and Tabbie Campbell; Grandfather, Charles Carpenter; Grandmother, Edith Greathouse; Grandfather, Jim Mitchell; Uncles, Anthony (Nicole) Carpenter, Jeffery (Brandi) Carpenter, Jason Carpenter, Josh (Megan) Mitchell, Jimmy Mitchell, Sean Carpenter, Brandon Carpenter; Aunt, Carla Carpenter; Nephew, Isaiah McClure; and numerous other family and friends.
The family would also like to send thanks to special friends of Ashley and David, Mark Szilagyi, Ashley's fiancé, thank you for loving and taking care of our Ashley. You meant the world to her and it was very clear she loved you with everything she was. Mariah White, Drew Berlin, Taylor Carpenter, Kaylee Adams, and all of the BHS band members thank you for supporting and loving Ashley like you all did. They would also like to thank Marco Fuentes, Chris Sickles and Jack Smith for supporting David with everything they did.
A special thanks to Mr. Dan Fly and Barberton City Schools for all their support both before and after this incident.
And again a special thanks to Haleina Pouncey for all the support and guidance through all of this. Ashley and David loved you very much.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Apostolic Church, 1717 Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (St. Rt. 619), Barberton, OH 44203. Pastor Paul J. Pamer and Pastor Bobby Webb will officiate. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at Apostolic Church.

I didn’t know Ashley or David personally, but I was their neighbor. I was just a kid when they passed, too young to fully understand what was lost. But now I’m the same age Ashley was when she passed, and the weight of that is something I feel deeply. Their loss changed something in me. It made me more aware of how fragile life is, how much the people in my life matter, and how deeply others can be missed, even by those who barely knew them. Their lives mattered. Their story matters. You both deserved more time. Years have gone by, but you are still not forgotten. Rest easy, angels.

I did not know Ashley or David well, but I'm still saddened by the tragedy. This happened, and it is still so heartbreakingly wrong.. I wish the family well in this time.
May God watch over the Parents of theses young kids Gone too soon. We lost a daughter at 18 also and that is the Greatest pain a parent can go through

My heart goes out to David & Ashley. David was my best friend and no one will ever replace him as the same with Ashley. I do not know this family or these beautiful teens but I feel their grief and pain. My grandson, Tyler Anderson, age 17 was murdered in Kenmore 5/17/12. No arrests to date. Words are not adequate to express my sympathy to this family. It is a unique group, parents and grandparents of murdered children. No one wants to be in this group. Ashley and David are angels. I am so sorry for your grief and pain. May God bring you serenity.
