WOOSTER -- Marlys M. Smith, 88, of Wooster, formerly of Rittman, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at her residence.
She was born May 12, 1925 in Rittman to Lloyd and Zelda (Lance) Hoover and lived in Rittman before moving to Wooster 26 years ago.
Marlys graduated from Wadsworth High School in the class of 1943 and married Elmer J. Smith on June 18, 1950, he preceded her in death on April 14, 2013. They had been happily married for nearly 63 years.
She worked for Huntington Bank in Wadsworth for 25 years until retiring in 1982. She was the first female to hold the position of bank officer with Huntington Bank.
Marlys was a member of Rittman Grace Brethren Church and Wooster Grace Church. She was involved in the Women's Missionary Council in the Rittman church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking, travel and music, especially playing the piano and organ.
Surviving are children, Mark (Cheryl) Smith, Marcia (Bruce) Daugherty and Richard Smith all of Wooster; grandchildren, Jared (Brianna) Smith of Wooster, Amanda (Pete) Malgeri of Tyson Corner, Va., Andrea Smith of Wooster, Laurie (Joseph) Ksiazek of Indianapolis, Ind., Joseph Daugherty of Wooster and Jordan and Michal Smith of Stow; great grandchildren, Lindley, Mirabelle and Gabriella; and sisters, Phyllis (Wendell) Hostetler of Orrville and Marjorie Collier of Massillon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; and sister, Jean Triplett.
Services will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at 11 A.M. at Wooster Grace Church, 4599 Burbank Rd., Wooster with Pastor Randy Moomaw officiating. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Rittman. Friends may call from 10 to 11 A.M. on Monday at the church.
