Aileen A. Ford Obituary
Aileen A. Ford

Aileen A. Ford, 93, passed away on February 2, 2014.

She was born January 30, 1921 in Altoona, Pa. to the late Albin and Edith Schenk. Mom came to Akron in 1943 to work in the rubber factories building tires for the war effort. It was there that she met her future husband, Keith, and began a family after their marriage on Valentine's Day 1945.

Mpm was a woman of great faith. She was a founding member of St. Francis de Sales Church in 1948. Her life was about faith, caring, and giving. At St. Francis, Mom was one of the "church mice" and was honored to clean the sacristy. She assisted with the Red Cross blood drives, made rosaries for missions, crocheted prayer shawls for the sick, and participated in the prayer line. She was a Caretaker who visited nursing homes, baked and made favors for the residents. Mom was proud to be an Avila Prayer Mom, contributing through prayer to the many vocations emanating from St. Francis. Mom enjoyed attending weekly meetings of the Thursday Scripture Group. She was a member of the funeral choir and was an active member of the funeral committee who last baked and served at a funeral luncheon this past Thursday.

Mom celebrated her 93rd birthday last Thursday and received numerous cards and well wishes from her many loving friends and family. Mom loved to cook and still prepared the holiday dinners for her family. You never left without food in your hand for the next day and she always prepared plates to share with two disabled friends. Mom loved gardening and flowers. Her yard was filled with blooms from Spring to Fall. She often could be found watching the birds visit her flowers or come to the feeders during the winter.

Aileen was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Keith; brothers, Irvin, who gave his life in World War II, Robert (Mary), Denver (Barb), Joseph (Sarah) Schenk and sister, Leona (Leo, surviving) Veneskey. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra D'Angelo; and sons, David (Lorrie), Rodney (Mary) and Keith Ford; grandson, Jeffrey (Cyndi) and great-grandchildren, Brighid and Connor Schlegel; brother, Albin (Helen); and sisters, Rita (Urban, deceased) Wolfe and Rosemary (Jack) Conrad. She also leaves behind stepgrandson, Aaron and his family; and son Keith's grandson, Landon, who held a special place in her heart.

Mom was a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews, a loving friend to many at St. Francis, and a caring neighbor.

Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Manchester Cemetery.
