Richard P. Marshall, 83, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife, Fern A. Marshall; his sister, Dr. Jean Clark; his son, Joseph Marshall; his daughter, Paula Thompson and husband Geoffrey (their sons Scott and Matthew and wife Katie); stepson, Mike Ward and wife Cindy; stepson, Jeff Ward and wife Ellie (their children Andrew and Marrissa); stepdaughter, Cheryl Ward (her children Kelly Lester, Chris Najsztup and wife Rebekah and great-grandchild, Ava).
His gentle spirit and good nature will be missed by family and many close friends.
Born in Rootstown, Ohio, the son of Paul and Laura Marshall, he was a lifelong resident of the Akron area. After graduating from East High School, he was accepted into the 4 year Apprenticeship Program with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and received recognition of the coveted Litchfield Award. He then joined the two year Engineering Squadron at Goodyear and again received the Litchfield Award for the second time. He went on to become an engineer in the Machine Design department. He enjoyed a 39 year career with Goodyear and held several patents for his machine designs.
An accomplished athlete, in his early years he excelled in bantam weight football and played a talented second base in baseball. Later years found him on the golf course, snowbirding in Florida, woodworking, painting, riding horses and skiing.
