Evangelist Dorothy Mae "Dot" McGuire

Evangelist Dorothy May "Dot" McGuire received her wings on Friday, march 7, 2014. Dorothy was born July 15, 1939 in Memphis, Tenn.

Dorothy received Christ at an early age, and was a member of The Greater Bush Grove Baptist Church and Choir. She graduated from Barrett's Chapel High School in 1957, studied at The Lemoyne Chorus College in Memphis, Tenn.

Dorothy moved to Akron, Ohio at the age of 18 with special cousin, Addie Bell Rice. She joined St. John C.M.E. Church, served on the Ministerial Staff, Missionary Society, sang in the choir and later became the Choir Director for the next 40 years; and was one of St. John's Woman of the Year. Dorothy served in different organizations, working for the City of Akron as a School Patrol Crossing Guard for 25 years, retiring in 2004.

Dorothy graduated from Hammel Business College, Berean Bible College, and was a member of the Reindeers Women's Auxiliary, served as secretary for the Copley Road Merchants Association, and was a freelance writer for the Report Newspaper.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Emmitt and Bertha Edingburgh; brother, Emmitt Edingburgh. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Allen McGuire; sons, Tyrell, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Nyere and Paul; and daughter, Sherry McGuire, all of Akron, Ohio; granddaughters, Tyree Burch, of Hanford, Calif., and Lenea McGuire, of Fresno, Calif.; brothers, Willie (Priscilla), Joe (Shirley), Allen Ray (Norma), and Louis Edingburgh; sisters, Ree and Ruth Edingburgh, all of Memphis, Tenn.; and a host of other family and friends.

Homegoing service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 12 Noon at St. John C.M.E. Church, 1233 S. Hawkins Ave., Akron, OH 44320, Rev. Richard McDuffie officiating. Interment Glendale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 6234 Blanche St., Akron, OH 44307.
