Jean Marie Goodson

TALLMADGE -- Jean Marie Goodson, 83, went home to be with her Lord on April 5, 2014.

Preceded in death by her parents, Merritt and Vivian Carney, and her sister, Janice Horn, Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Darrell; and her children, Nancy (Jim) Toy, Jill (H. Scott) Burton, Greg (Kathy) Goodson, and Beth Summers. She is cherished by her grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Toy, Michelle (Jared) Warner, and Eric (Jessica) Toy, Michelle (Ben) Kennett, Scott (fiancé Julia) and Amanda Burton; Daniel (Deb), Thomas (Becky), and David (Darcy) Goodson; Justin (Rose), Colin (Jenna), and Julianne Summers, 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Sara (Ray) George; sister-in-law, Zelma Eihinger; and brothers-in-law, John Horn and Denny Goodson, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jean was born in Akron on September 19, 1930, married to Darrell in 1951, and they settled in Tallmadge in 1955, where they raised their family. Jean enjoyed the fellowship of many with EKO Garden Club, Congregational Church Quilters, Tallmadge Country Study Club, The Chapel Prime Time ABF, and many bridge partners. Her favorite times were entertaining her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as extended family, which was a regular occurrence for holidays. She led an active life with involvement in her family, church and the community of Tallmadge, and she found much joy in collecting antiques and faithfully hand stitching quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 10 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Avenue (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle). The Memorial Service will be Friday, April 11 at 11 a.m. in The Memorial Chapel at The Chapel in Akron, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, Ohio, with Pastors Lynn Warner and Doug Ley officiating. Interment will be at Tallmadge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Faithful Servants Care Center, 65 Community Rd., Suite F, Tallmadge, OH 44278, ministry to those needing urgent health care who are in financial need in the Tallmadge/Akron area. www.FaithfulServantsCareCenter.
