Richard Lee Sanders, Sr.

Richard Lee Sanders, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully, at Manor Care Health Services, with his family by his side on April 30, 2014.

Born in Akron, Ohio, he graduated from Garfield High School. Richard served in the U.S. Navy (Korean War) and was honorably discharged. He worked for Brecksville V A Hospital and retired from Babcock & Wilcox Company, after 28 years of service (1967-1994).

Preceded in death by his father and mother, Willis D. and Beulah Sanders; brothers, Willis, Wilbert, and Kenny Sanders. Richard leaves to mourn his loss, devoted wife of 59 years, Rev. Loretta Sanders; children, Renatta (Sam) Robinson, Richard (Jodie) Sanders, Jr., Eric Sanders, Karen (Lenny) Gulley and Andria Chambers; and sister, Sonya Robbins. Also he leaves grandchildren, Marcus Beeman, Marie Chambers, Kevin Chambers, Jr., Kristin Thompson and Keith Thompson, Jr.; and great-grandchild, Eleekae Chambers. Special friends, Kirkwood Cottman, Lee Hunter, Albert Fitzpatrick; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Glen Black, Dr. Benson Bonyo and the staff at Manor Care Health Services for wonderful care.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 12 p.m., at Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Dr. Charles Tyler, Sr., officiating. Interment Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 10 a.m., at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery. Friends may call at 11 a.m. until time of service Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 915 Mull Ave., #1-O, Akron, Ohio 44313.
