Mary V. Johnson (nee Koehl)|
BARBERTON/MANCHESTER -- Mary Johnson, 92, passed peacefully into Heaven on April 30, 2014, at the Sterling House of Barberton.
Born to Frank and Annie (Richards) Koehl, she graduated from Kenmore High School. Mary was a veteran of the Women's Army Corp. During WW II, she served with the 6719 WAC Platoon in Italy and North Africa as a telephone operator. Mary retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company (AT &T) in 1978 with 24 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. After retiring, Mary and her husband Lyle spent winters in south Florida and summers in Portage Lakes and Lake Milton, Ohio. She enjoyed traveling, line and square dancing, volunteering, spending time with family (especially her grandchildren), and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, Lyle; sisters, Betty Dudra, Sue Imler, and Shelly Negray.
Mary is survived by her children, Russell (Sharon) Johnson, Craig (Teresa) Johnson, Carol Johnson; grandchildren, Curt (Susan) Johnson, Patricia (Manuel) Silveira, Christina Johnson; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kevin, Jennifer, Dean and Sydney; sisters, Barbara Germano, Anne Darr, Peggy Bandy and Katie Bradshaw; many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the Sterling House staff and Harbor Light Hospice for their excellent care and loving support of our mother.
Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3250 Greenwich Rd., Norton on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m., where service will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Bud Couts officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harbor Light Hospice in memory of Mary.
