1924 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Tommie T. Poole

Tommie T. Poole was the third oldest of twelve children, born to Nathaniel Sr. and Ethel Lee Benton-Poole. His arrival in this life was in Columbus, Miss., on April 30, 1924.

Tommie attended school in Steen, Miss. In 1946 Tommie enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in March of 1947. One year later on April 24, 2948 he married Christine Wells, his soul-mate and was to become his life partner for 58 years. Four strong spirited boys to this union, Cleophus, Tommie Earl, Larry and Edwin. Christine preceded Tommie in death on January 27, 2006.

Couple of years after his marriage to Christine, Tommie decided to bring his family to Akron, Ohio where he joined the B & W Boiler Making Company Team. There he performed the duties of a crane operator and welder. After 33 years of service Tommie retired and joined his wife as they traveled all over the country. Most trips involved following their son Larry and his NFL team of which Larry held the position of running-back for the Cleveland Browns. They always encouraged their son's athletic abilities, which all four had, and taught them the value of working hard and being respectful and successful young men.

Tommie was also the Post Commander of the Rhine River Post 3618 in Akron VFW, of which he truly enjoyed.

Tommie was very devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. On June 11, 2014, Tommie departed this life for a better one. He leaves to cherish his memory four sons, Cleophus (Patricia) of St. Louis, Mo., Tommie Earl (Janice) of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, Larry (Elizabeth) of Tampa, Fla., Edwin (Barbara) of Canal Fulton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Effie Mae (Sanders) Swan of Kentucky, Emma Heard of Mississippi, Bethel, Randolph, of South Carolina, Amos (Estelle), Olmarie Richardson, of Mississippi, and Sonny (Mittie); and a host of nephew, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
